Overview Klenshyttan 1918. Ref 1

The picture above show the modern Klenshyttan. The big waterwheel has for many weears ago been taken away. Surely when the new furnace was built 1882. Mote that this was a risky investment as iron procuction was decreasing. This time was called "The death of Iron works".

During this time the owners invested in a nw water turbine, steam machine and for the time a typical blower. Pictures 1, 2, 3. Now Klenshyttan was almost independent of water.

This made that the furnace was in use till 1920, when it was closed.

The question is what type of turbine they installed. There are two types which may have been used, Pelton or Francis. See link.

At the big investment , the owners hired an engineer firm know as Qvist & Gjers. They had made a new construction how to build an new furnace. There idea was that it should be built on casted iron stands. See picture below and at Högfors Foundry ruin.

It was understood that the turbine was depending on the water pressure. This was built up by a drum which was connected to the small store of water. This was a depot of water from Dammsjön.

The owners had not enough with money for the big investment in the end of 1800. Hagge works which had interests in the furnace was allowed to by as many shares as necessary and in this way Hagge became majority owner 1863. In this also mines forest were involved.

Klenshyttan

Klenshyttan is a small village around the furnace. It's heritage comes from Mattes Arfvidsson 1420.

The first furnace was probably built by two brothers Jan and Olof Klack 1605. Descendants  to Mattes built 1620 a hammer. The pig iron was sold to Hagge works. This place had the ancient name "Klämshyttan".

The furnace was owned by farmers around and divided into 24 shares. This owner structure was kept up to when it was closed 1920.

Railroad

The railroad which was built just behind Klenshyttan got also a side rail, for deliveries to the furnace 1877.

The full story about this ws in connection when English railraod interests were invited to Sweden. It had also connection when the new process to clean ore from sulphur called Thomas process. In Grängesberg big amounts of ore had been found since several years.

A railroad was built between Frövi - Bånghammar - Ludvika to transport ore. The meaning was that is railroad first should en at Hult in lake Vänern. This alternative was change afor the ice free harbor of Oxelösund. This was the first embryo for TGOJ. Read more how raiways were built in this area.

But

But Klenshyttan was just a little point around all minor mines and the "Big mine" in Grängesberg. It was not either meanings full to take over.

This was the cause way this works was left in silence up to closing year 1920 and tit was sill owned by farmers around. Hagge Works which had big interests  ws closed already 1910 and became probably owner by Klenshyttan.

The happenings during long times, in Sweden make that industries will be left untouched of modern time. Compare the ruin in Ulfshyttan.
