The oldest cars at in Sochaux museum. Ref. 49

The family Peugeot consisted of 3 noble families in France.They had a business and produced in the beginning especially mills for grinding of salt and spices. This activity was expanded first with bicycles with steel spokes tims which was their specialty. Other articles were furthermore, umbrella frames and aids to women for the time, modern wide dresses, as well as the life pieces and corsets to form the woman's body. It was used for this was the blue whale's baleen. Bikes have been produced until 1926 when the section were split into a separate company.
The bike company kept on to about 2010. Armand Peugeot was the family member who realized that cars would be the future product.
Car brand Peugeot is one of the oldest brands still manufactured in France. Vehicles began to be manufactured 1858. The family managed to retain control of the company until about 2010, when the French State headed the development to merging with Citroen and Renault. 2018 GM part of Opel, in Germany, was bought using government money.

The Museum is divided into time-images with up to 10 exhibition items in each. Showing items until WWII, as well as a few items after WWII. Then is the production is exhibted after the various products Peugeot has developed. Daimler engine was used simultaneously for 3 different car brands. Peugeot, Panhard and Daimler. It was a 4-stroke engine with two cylinders mounted in V2 with 17 ° angle. Cylinder volume could be between 565 to 1656 cc that produced an effect at 2 to 2.75 ps at max rpm of 3000. The intake valve was automatically controlled with under pressure. The ignition system was a gasoline-operated burner.

The first car manufactured was a steam-powered test car after cooperation with Serpollet 1889. The first own 4-stroke-powered car got 1890 which was called type 2.

Type 3 Vis A Vis. Equipped with Daimler's V2 engine. to get the most publicity, it took part in the bicycle competition Paris-Brest 1891. Here, they used a car, type 3, as packing and service vehicle. This ran over 20 kilometers with an average speed of 14 km/h. Ref. 1

Type 4 painted according to the buyer's wish as stated by the Bey of Tunis military Governor. The car was given the name Marguerite. The type could reach 25 km/h. Ref. 1

Type 5 Vis a Vis. Manufactured between 1893-1896. This was the first automobile race Paris-Rouen. Of the chosen participant after the trial, 21 different cars, to the main event that was run a distance of 218 km. Car was placed equal with a Panhard and Levassor.Max speed was 18 km/h. Ref. 1

Type 8 Victoria. 4 sists. There were many similarities with old carriages of the first bodies for engine-powered cars. For example, the name Victoria signified that the front seats were placed higher where the driver and the helper (gate opener) were placed. This type was manufactured between 1893 and 1896, and had a max speed with 4-speed transmission by 20 km/h. Ref. 1

Peugeot type 15 Milestone. Note the tires. 1897 is a year to remember the in Peugeot's history. This year started Armand rhe company and production places were Audincourt and Lille. Gratien Peugeot designed the first Peugeot engine with horizontal cylinder. 276 cars were manufactured between 1897 and 1902. The engine gave a 7 hp, which gave the car a speed of 35 km/h. Peugeot now left the Daimler engine. Ref. 1

Peugeot's first self-designed engine, with horizontal cylinder. The in-house production of a motor became a reality after the Peugeot company had started. The engine was completely different Daimlers motor. The new design gave the opportunity to create a body that was more appropriate. 1584 engines were manufactured between 1896 and 1902. Different models with 1000-2500 cc, gave between 2 and 12 hp. Ref. 1

Type 16. Like many of the Museum's cars is this type 16 original. The car was sold in 1900 by the retailer in Bordeaux. It has a straight 2 cyl. 2423 cc engine, with cylinders that gave 7 hp, with a 4 speed gearbox. The car passed the 35 km/h. Ref. 1
Typ 33 1900. Ref. 1
Type 33 1900 when France was the world's largest vehicle producer. In France there were 4800 cars made, while in the United States compared only 4000 copies. 84 type 33 were made 1900 to 1902. Ref. 1

Peugeot type 38 1901-1902. From this year started the new engine design affect the design of a car's body. The engine was now placed in front, with gearbox and traction to the rear wheels behind. Mass production had not begun and every car had the desired design of the bodywork. 111 cars were manufactured by type 36. with 5 hp motor, 4 speed transmission with reverse gear and max 30 km/h.  Peugeot 201 Coupe. 1929. When the economic crisis came in late 1920 Peugeot had a suitable car model with the right price. It was the type 201. It is considered to have saved the company from bankruptcy, which affected many other less automakers. Ref. 1.

Peugeot's rescue was not only model 201 but also the modernization years before at the company. 8537 of this model were produced between the years 1920-1932. Peugeot Type 201 Berline. 1929. Up to had the depression 1929 series of Peugeot were labeled with a number and letter. For example, 190 S. This was not, however, used in advertising, but was only an internal designation. From now on this kind was of bigger importance. The first number was the size, the last one was time order of the model. Number zero ties together these numbers. 14309 produced by the model 201 between 1929-1937. 79000 were the saloon models.  Peugeot type 301 C Berline. 1932. This model was the first that had individual front end suspension. The progress was to control resisted vibrations. 70497 cars were manufactured between 1932 and 1936. 30226 was the saloon model. Engine 4 cyl. 1465 cc 34 hp and 3 speed gearbox. Max speed was 90 km/h. Ref. 1.

Peugeot type 301 D coupé 1934. 13545 type 401 and 301 1100 type Coupe manufactured 1934-1935. 4 cyl. 1720 cc 44 hp, 3 switches. Type 301 had a slightly weaker and smaller engine. Max speed. 100 km/h.  Ref. 1.

Peugeot type 401 D Limousine 1934 was manufactured at the factory in Souchaux. Here worked 12000, who produced 40000 cars per year. Compared to 2009 manufactured 275000 cars for the same number of hours. Ref. 1.
